Shawnee on the Delaware, PA- Sixteen years of a local tradition, the Pocono Garlic Festival, is taking place on Labor Day Weekend, September3 & 4th, 2011. Located at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area, the festival offers a sampling of the region's local garlic farms, food vendors, crafters, artisans and entertainers – this is the bestlil’ garlic festival in the world.

Homegrown;
 this-event is truly all about the garlic. All the garlic featured, sold and used for-food preparation at the event is grown and harvested in the northeast region.Local farms providing garlic and produce for the festival include: Knob View Farm, the Josie Porter Farm, Rolling Hills Farm, Fairman Farm, Burdick Creek Gardens & Mountaindale Farms

 

Food-Vendors
 Over-fifty vendors will provide a wide range of foods from simple to sophisticated,geared for the “foodie” with discerning taste buds.  The 2011 Pocono Garlic Festival is a platform to showcase the area’s most pungent garlic and-finest eateries, with no two alike.  This year's tasting will include-everything from the very predictable garlic inspired Italian dishes such as bruschetta, meatballs on a stick and shrimp scampi, to richly garlic near east-dishes represented by shish kabob, tabouli, baba ghanouj, felafel's and-stuffed grape leaves. Paella, empanadas, Spanish sausage, hand made kielbasa,pirogi and garlic-fried rice are coming back for the tasting. “Garlic is so versatile that the every day dishes sparkles,” expressed, one of last year's-attendees. Other staples will be returning are corn on the cob with garlic-butter, smoke BBQ sandwiches, turkey legs, chicken wings and crab cakes to name-just a scrumptious few. Each vendor uses just about fifty pounds of garlic to-prepare for the festival, that’s more than 3000 pounds. For the true garlic-adventure there was even garlic ice cream, garlic chocolate chip cookies and-even garlic hand rolled cigars.

Local-artists and crafters will exhibit a variety of hand crafted garlic themed creations and wares at-this year’s two-day event.  From homemade wood items to pottery to jewelryand even handcrafted soaps Garlic in every form imaginable will be on display.  Including returning local artist MeCrazy Creations, Getlit, Wander Wheel Studio and MudWorks Pottery, to name-some.

Non-StopMusic and Shows
Musical headliners Zydeco-A-Go-Go will be returning to the Pocono Garlic-Festival this year along with local favorites, Burning Bridget Cleary, the-Juggernaut String Band, Blue Emerald, The Lost Ramblers, Pearls Before Swine (formerly known as Milkweed) and many more.  The PA Dance Network will also be returning with-several dance performances throughout both days.  The venue boast three-outdoor stages, an outdoors children’s activity area, educational lectures,cooking demonstrations and strolling acts for all to enjoy. Festival goers will enjoy a wide variety of non-stop live music and “garlic themed” novelty act sand entertainments geared towards the whole family, including jugglers, magicians and live local performers.

An Expanded Educational Tent 
Returning to the event, we have dedicated an area of the festival to demonstrations and lectures with dual platforms for continuous demonstrations both adults and children. The Festival will feature live garlic cooking-classes, professional garlic growing seminars, featured farmer forums and a lot-more. If you want to know all there is about garlic, this is the place to be!Featuring Bob Dunkel who is both a member of the Garlic Seed Foundation and editor of the GarlicPress.  He will present two informative lectures on “Growing Your OwnGarlic” and “Garlic History, General Health and Cooking Issues”.  Bob, who hails from Western New York, is devoted to garlic growing without the use of chemicals or supplements. In addition to the Pocono Wildlife RehabilitationCenter with an-array of native PA animals.  This local organization provides a place for-injured and orphaned wildlife to receive treatment until they can be released back into the wild.
